BANGOR — Eastern Maine Medical Center Foundation announced a gift of $1 million from a grateful patient to support the Remarkable Begins With You capital campaign at a ceremony on Aug. 14. The gift was given in honor of EMMC physician Felix Hernandez, medical director of surgical services and the entire team who provided care to the patient. The gift will name the new cardiac surgical and critical care units, which comprise the new fifth floor of the tower currently under construction.
“I want to thank Felix and the cardiovascular team of nurses and providers for providing excellent care to our anonymous donor of this significant gift,” said Deborah Carey Johnson, EMMC president and CEO. “We have a very grateful patient who has the utmost respect and appreciation for the care that Felix and his team provided, and has been very generous in his response to that care. So I want to thank all of you for your great work and the wonderful care you deliver every day.”
“This will really help patients in the northern two-thirds of Maine. I’m glad he recognized the entire team that helped care for him in the OR, the intensive care unit, and on the floors,” said Dr. Hernandez. “This will help us build a more modern hospital with updated facilities, including operating rooms that will help us deliver state-of-the-art care to patients. It’ll also help EMMC recruit physicians to the area.”
The EMMC Remarkable Begins With You capital campaign benefits the Modernization Project, which will provide state-of-the-art operating rooms, consolidated heart care, updated space for laboring moms and their babies, new neonatal intensive care space, and increased private rooms for patients receiving care at EMMC.
