Bridge work to halt Turnpike traffic in Hallowell next week

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

HALLOWELL, Maine — Placement of structural steel on the Litchfield Road bridge will cause Maine Turnpike traffic to be halted in both directions for about 25 minutes Monday night.

Stoppages will occur through Aug. 28 at Mile 106.9. Work is scheduled to occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Motorists should expect delays or seek alternate travel routes during the project.

The $1.5 million project started in March and includes replacing and raising the existing bridge superstructure to provide a minimum vertical clearance of 15 feet, 6 inches, and repair of existing abutments and piers.

The project is expected to wrap up this fall.
