FARMINGTON, Maine — A 24-year-old local man is facing a cruelty to animals charge after allegedly performing a sex act on a dog, according to police.

The sequence of events leading to the arrest of Albert Farmer started when police were called to a residence around 5 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic incident, according to Farmington Police Secretary Bonnie Pomeroy.

Police determined that no assault had taken place, Pomeroy said, but while officers were taking statements, two witnesses advised that Farmer had abused the dog recently. Pomeroy said the dog belongs to one of the witnesses.

Pomeroy said the witness the dog belongs to is an acquaintance of Farmer’s and not a family member, and Farmer no longer has access to the dog.

Farmer was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals, a Class D misdemeanor, and taken to the Franklin County Jail, Pomeroy said. He was later released.
