Shirley E. Mayo

MILO – Shirley E. Mayo, 84, wife of Murray V. Mayo, died August 18, 2014, at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born October 2, 1929, in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of Donald and Freda (Brawn) Herring. Shirley attended school in Dover and Guilford, graduating as valedictorian of her class.

Shirley worked in local businesses, including J.J. Newberry Co., Center Theater, and the Farmer’s Home Administration.

On October 27, 1950, Shirley and Murray married and together they did missionary work in Houlton, Presque Isle, and Norway. They settled down in Milo, working with the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Shirley had an intense interest in writing, having an extensive collection of her own poetry. She also had a great love for the opera, with a beautiful singing voice to match.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, brother, Edward and sister, Betty. She is survived by her husband, Murray; her brother, Merle Herring and his wife, Audrey; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her spiritual family as well.

A memorial service will be conducted 2pm Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Dover Road, Milo. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo.
