FORT KENT, Maine — An equipment failure on a pole near St. Agatha was the cause of a power outage that left more than 2,300 St. John Valley customers without electricity Tuesday morning, according to Emera Maine spokesman Bob Potts.

Residents in Madawaska, Grand Isle, Van Buren, Limestone and St. Agatha lost their power around 9:30 a.m.

The equipment failure caused a small fire at the pole and Potts said that took some time to repair.

Emera Crews were able to get some customers’ power restored by 9:55 a.m. and everyone had their power back by just after 11 a.m., Potts said.

Emera said 2,381 customers we affected.

Customers can report outages or ask questions by calling Emera’s customer service center at 973-2020 or 1-855-EMERA11 (1-855-363-7211).
