New staff member

BANGOR — Penobscot Community Health Care announced recently that Dr. Ernest “Jamie”

Holden, has joined the staff of PCHC Dental Center, 1048 Union St.

Holden received an undergraduate degree from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, and a medical degree in dentistry from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Medford, Massachusetts, where he completed a two-year dental residency program, serving as chief resident in his second year. Holden also is certified in oral sedation.

Champion the Cure Challenge awards

BREWER — The fifth annual EMMC Champion the Cure Challenge took place Aug. 16 at EMMC Cancer Care, at Lafayette Family Cancer Center, 33 Whiting Hill Road.

Recipients of the EMMC Champion the Cure Challenge awards were honored at the event. EMMC physician Susan O’Connor was named honorary chairwoman of the event for her continued dedication to cancer patients.

Judy Collier of Hampden received the Terry Fox Award for her tireless volunteer efforts to support local cancer patients.

Lanham, Blackwell and Baber Attorneys of Bangor received the Champion Award for continued support as a lead corporate sponsor.

Hospitality students from Husson University received the Community Champion Award. Since 2011, the students have donated their time and talents by cooking and serving dinner at the pre-race pasta party.

The Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Carole Piasecki of Lafayette Hotels. Piasecki has been instrumental in the event since it began, serving on the leadership committee and in numerous volunteer roles.
