Three arrested after fight, stabbing in South Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Police responded to a reported fight early Saturday morning in South Portland that ended in three arrests and one person taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to a post on the South Portland Police Department’s Facebook page by acting Police Chief Frank Clark.

Officers arrived at Cannon Road just after 2 a.m. Saturday morning as a fight involving several people was still taking place, the message said. There was reportedly a knife and a significant amount of blood on the ground, which led the officers to believe someone was seriously injured.

A Portland police K-9 was brought to the scene, and it helped officers locate a 23-year-old man who was severely injured “with wounds from an edged weapon.”

The 23-year-old was taken to Maine Medical Center.

Sugelle Warsame, 24, of South Portland, Alex Julien, 24, of Portland and Steeve Alphonse, 21, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct. The three were taken to the Cumberland County Jail, the Facebook post said.

The case will be referred to the Cumberland County district attorney’s office, according to the Facebook post said.
