MEXICO, Maine — A man involved in a standoff with police is dead, according to a release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

McCausland said the man allegedly stole a pickup truck in Paris and led police on a chase to a Circle K convenience store in Mexico. The man had exchanged gunfire with a state trooper and a Mexico police officer, McCausland said.

The man later was found dead inside the truck, parked outside the Circle K.

No police officers were injured in the incident. The attorney general’s office will investigate the incident because the shooting involved law enforcement officers.

McCausland said the name of the deceased man is likely to be released Monday, and the area near the Circle K will be closed off through the night as the investigation continues.
