WISCASSET, Maine — A crash between a motorcycle and a car on Rt. 1 near the intersection with Birch Point Road sent two to hospital Saturday, Officer Robert McFetridge of the Wiscasset Police Department said.

The motorcycle moved into the path of the car and struck the car, totalling both vehicles, McFetridge said. The police were called at 8:28 a.m.

The motorcyclist was taken by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with potentially life-threatening injuries, he said, while the driver of the car was taken by ambulance to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta with less severe injuries.

McFetridge said at noon that the names of the two people involved were not yet being released.

Rt. 1 was closed for about two hours as a result of the crash, but by noon it was back open. In addition to the Wiscasset police, Wiscasset fire and ambulance and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.

The sheriff’s department is currently investigating the accident, MeFetridge said.
