WINTERPORT – Joanne Elizabeth Sayward Bearce, 78, left us on August 11, 2014. She was a long time resident of Winterport ME, formerly of Yarmouth ME. She was born on February 2, 1936 in Portland ME, daughter of Nelson and Eleanor (Stowell) Sayward.
Joanne grew up in Yarmouth and attended North Yarmouth Academy. She married Philo Bearce III on October 9, 1954. She spent many years as a Navy wife traveling and living in other states before returning home to Maine. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As a breast cancer survivor, she supported The Susan G. Komen Foundation, American Heart Association, and other charities.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Philo; sister Pauline Ayer, and grandson Eric Rushing.
She is survived by her children; daughters Susan and husband Dwayne Allen of Fairborn, OH and Karen and husband Rick Rushing of Shreveport, LA; son David and wife Brenda Bearce of Knox; sister Patricia (Sayward) Stevens of Lisbon Falls; daughter in law Crystal Bearce of Hampden; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday August 16, 2014 at Ellingwood Corner Church, 796 Lebanon Rd, Winterport with Pastor Bob Hartell officiating.
