PORTLAND, Maine — Five people were taken to the hospital after a minivan crashed into a Portland restaurant.

Portland fire officials say a van drove off Allen Avenue and hit the corner of Bruno’s Restaurant at around 10 a.m. Thursday.

They say two cars were involved in the crash.

The deputy fire chief says this isn’t the first time a car crashed into Bruno’s.

“I was talking to the owner and he said this is the third time this building has been hit and it’s gone under extensive renovations of the years,” said Shawn Neat of the Portland Fire Department.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Crews are working on the restaurant to make sure it is safe and stable while they wait for it to be repaired.
