BANGOR, Maine — Local police are investigating a burglary at a Hammond Street crematorium that was reported late last month.

On July 31, police responded to a burglar alarm at the Pine Grove Crematorium, according to Lt. Paul Edwards.

Edwards said police arrived shortly after the male suspect had left the scene.

“We just missed him,” Edwards said.

The lieutenant said no remains were taken from the facility, and he added “a couple of items” were stolen, although he did not disclose exactly what they were.

The burglar was caught on photo surveillance and was wearing a black or brown leather jacket, was carrying a blue blanket and has a beard.

Detective Josh Kuhn is investigating the case, and anyone with information should contact him at 947-7384 ext. 5756. The department’s tip line can be accessed by pressing extension 6.
