MONHEGAN ISLAND, Maine — A Massachusetts woman drowned Saturday while diving off the eastern tip of Monhegan Island.

Anna Krowczynska, 61, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, was among a party of five guided divers from Massachusetts diving in approximately 25 feet of water Saturday morning when she failed to return to the Lady Anne, a charter dive boat operated by Dave Sinclair of Sea Ventures Charters of Wayne, according to a release from the Maine Department of Marine Resources.

According to Marine Patrol reports, after Krowczynska failed to surface, another member of the party located her at approximately 12:15 p.m. and brought her to the surface, where CPR was performed by members of the party.

Krowczynska was brought to Port Clyde by the charter boat, where she was met by local emergency medical personnel and the Maine Marine Patrol and pronounced dead.

The Maine Marine Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the drowning.
