Achievement awards

The Phi Beta Kappa Association of Maine announced recently the winners of the 2014 Academic Achievement Awards. This year, 124 high schools throughout the state participated in the award program.

Achievement Award winners for 2014 are:

• Caitlin Cammack, Bangor Christian School.

• Helen Zhang, Bangor High School.

• Alexa Gray, Brewer High School.

• Sarah Doucette, Bucksport High School.

• Joseph Buzzell, Central High School, Corinth.

• Thomas Lilieholm, Hampden Academy.

• Catherine Woodilla, Hermon High School.

• Charlotte Zelz, John Bapst Memorial High School, Bangor.

• Conor Millard, Old Town High School.

• Lily Koffman, Orono High School.

 

Bangor Christian Schools

BANGOR — Bangor Christian Schools announced it is now enrolling students for the 2014-15 school year and has openings from kindergarten through grade 12. Bangor Christian offers an academic program with all subject areas taught from a Biblical point of view. Extracurricular opportunities include band, chorus, private music lessons, drama productions, concerts, recitals and art classes. The school provides an interscholastic athletic program with a variety of team and individuals sports. Pee wee sports are offered to elementary students.

Orientation night

BANGOR — Bangor Christian Schools will host an Orientation Night for students and parents at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, in the auditorium of Bangor Baptist Church. The evening will begin with an assembly in the auditorium which will include praise and worship and sharing of information by the school’s administration. After the assembly, students and parents will have an opportunity to visit with teachers in their classrooms.

Parents may sign up their children for music lessons and after school care. Information

about the hot lunch program, athletic boosters and volunteers will be provided as well as

various school forms.

At the end of the evening, Headmaster Jim Frost and Principal Martha Boone will be available in the auditorium for a question and answer session.

The senior class at Bangor Christian will host a barbecue dinner at 5 p.m. in the school cafeteria. No advance registration is required for the meal.

 

Colleges

MILFORD — Katelyn Day of Milford, a journalism major, was inducted recently into Alpha Kappa Delta international sociology honor society at Hofstra University in Hempsted, N.Y..

 

Simmons College

BREWER — Jessica Currier of Brewer recently received a certificate in nutrition degree from

the school of nursing health sciences at Simmons College in Boston.
