Theater programs for students

BANGOR — Registration is now open for school-year programs for students from pre-kindergarten through college, starting in September, at the Penobscot Theatre Company Dramatic Academy. For information, visit penobscottheatre.org and click on the education tab.


Jazz improv clinic, concert

HAMPDEN — The Gifts of Music will present a free afternoon improvisation clinic and benefit concert featuring jazz clarinetist Brad Terry, guitarist Peter Herman and the Hampden Academy Jazz Combo on Wednesday, Aug. 20,  Hampden Academy Performing Arts Center.

The clinic is free to all Maine middle and high school students with a suggested donation of $10 for any adult musician who wishes to attend the clinic.

The clinic will be followed by a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 20, also at Hampden Academy Performing Arts Center. Concert admission is by suggested donation of $10, $5 students and

seniors. The performance will feature the Hampden Academy Jazz Combo, Terry and Herman, and some of the students who participate in the afternoon improvisation clinic.


Watercolor, oil painting workshop

HOLDEN — Artist Michael Vermette will lead a workshop for watercolor and oil painters 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 23, at Fields Pond Audubon Center. He will help participants capture a Plein Air technique and style in their work.

The cost is $15 center members, $20 others. To register, call 989-2591.


Painting workshop

SEARSPORT —  Patchwork of Color, a one-day acrylic painting workshop with artist Susan Tobey White, will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15,  at Penobscot Marine Museum.  Beginning painters, as well as those with experience, will use the Gee’s Bend Quilts as inspiration to create colorful acrylic paintings.
