PORTLAND, Maine — Boyne Resorts plans to invest $5 million in its Sunday River ski area in Newry before the upcoming season, adding more snowmaking machines and upgrading a three-person chairlift.
The Michigan-based company announced Monday its Spruce Peak triple chairlift will undergo an upgrade to increase its speed and reduce stoppages, that it will invest about $1.1 million to buy 60 new snowmaking machines and that it will add another 10 acres of skiing terrain on Barker Mountain.
Those additions follow about $5.7 million invested by Boyne Resorts last year and $40 million since 2007.
The company also owns Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley, where in June it announced investments for new snowmaking equipment and a new grooming machine. It did not state a total for investment this season.
Boyne Resorts invested about $3 million at Sugarloaf last year and has drafted a plan for infrastructure at Sugarloaf out to the year 2020.
