Three juveniles charged after assaults on hospital staffers

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — Three male juveniles have been charged in connection with the assault Wednesday evening of four staff members from Acadia Hospital, a Bangor police official said Thursday.

The hospital employees’ injuries were not life threatening, Lt. Paul Edwards said in a news release Thursday. All four were treated at a local hospital and then released, he said.

Two 14-year-olds, one from Bangor and one from Jay, were arrested on felony aggravated assault charges and are being held at Mountain View Youth Development Center in Charleston, Edwards said.

A 17-year-old from Bangor was summoned on four misdemeanor assault charges and remains at the psychiatric facility, he said.

The arrests and charges are the result of an investigation by Bangor Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division that began Wednesday night, Edwards said.

He declined to provide additional details about what precipitated the assaults because the case involved juveniles and remains under investigation.
