Tree limb falls onto power line near downtown Waterville

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

WATERVILLE, Maine — A tree limb collapsed onto a power line on Silver Street on Wednesday morning, disrupting traffic in the downtown area throughout the day.

“We lost power to two traffic lights in that geographic area,” Waterville Police Sgt. Lincoln Ryder said Thursday.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m., according to Ryder. The sergeant said it was not weather-related.

“It wasn’t storming or anything like that,” Ryder said.

Waterville police and fire responded, along with the city’s Public Works and Central Maine Power crews, according to Ryder. The incident occurred immediately to the south of the intersection of Silver and Spring streets.

Police shut down Silver Street to traffic between Western Avenue and Spring Street while the scene was cleaned up, Ryder said. Officials were on scene until about 2:30 p.m.
