The little town that wasn’t: South Berwick website back up

By Casey Conley, Foster's Daily Democrat

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — The town ceased to exist this week — at least on the Internet.

The town’s official website went down Saturday evening after the domain name expired. It was offline until Monday evening.

“The domain didn’t get renewed,” Town Manager Perry Ellsworth said. “The old company that used to manage it for us went out of business.”

The town never received the renewal paperwork to keep the site active, he said. The town’s IT contractor, Two-Way Communications, stepped in to resolve the problem.

Ellsworth wasn’t sure how much the town pays for the domain name or how frequently it must be renewed. He said those details have traditionally been managed by outside providers.
