ROCKLAND, Maine — A former school board member will challenge an incumbent member for a single seat to represent the city on the regional school board.

Kyle Reniche took out nomination papers Wednesday to challenge incumbent Carol Bachofner, who also took out papers for a three-year seat on the Regional School Unit 13 Board.

Reniche served on the School Administrative District 5 School Board in 2005 after being appointed in January of that year by the City Council to fill a vacancy. He did not seek election that fall.

He is a clinical social worker who was employed by SAD 5’s successor RSU 13 until his position was cut in June as part of the budget actions.

Bachofner, Rockland’s poet laureate, was appointed to the school board in June 2011 by the City Council and then won election that fall to a three-year term.

Nomination papers must be turned into City Hall by Sept. 22 to be on the ballot for the Nov. 4 election.
