SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Host Skowhegan remained undefeated in the 11U Cal Ripken New England baseball tournament Tuesday with a 13-2 winners’ bracket victory over Riverside, Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts team (2-1) will play 3-1 Andy Valley at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will play 3-0 Skowhegan for the New England title at 3 p.m. Thursday, with an if-necessary game slated for 5 p.m.
Kyle Kruse required just 52 pitches to finish off a five-inning complete-game four-hitter for Skowhegan.
Cam Louder provided all the offensive support he needed with a grand slam and a single, while Jimmy Reed added a double and two singles and Chance Towle singled twice.
Tom McAndrews homered and singled for Riverside while Zach Durso doubled.
Andy Valley stayed alive with an 11-1 elimination-game victory over Marlboro, Massachusetts, as Brady Downing pitched a two-hitter for the Maine team.
Tyler Delano paced the Andy Valley offense with three singles, while Joe Godomsky singled twice and Josh Power homered. Tyler Dossas doubled for Marlboro.
Earlier in the day, Andy Valley scored a 4-1 victory over Hartford, Vermont, behind the three-hit pitching of Atticus Soehren.
Cecelia Dieterich singled twice and Trevor Swanbeck doubled and singled for the winners, while Alex Bushway tripled for Hartford.
In the day’s first game, Marlboro, Massachusetts, used a 20-hit attack to outslug Barrington, Rhode Island, 16-9. Tyler Dossas led the winners with a home run and two singles while Austin Stone doubled and singled twice and Sohan Santikary hit a clutch double to put his team ahead for good.
Matt Messenger homered and singled for Barrington while Dario Ceppetelli had three singles.
