ORANGE CITY – EDNA MAE CHRISTIE DUNFEE

ORANGE CITY, FL – Edna Mae Christie Dunfee, nearly age 99, wife of the late Emery S. Dunfee, died after many years in the Alzheimer’s unit of John Knox Village Nursing Home in Orange City, FL July 22, 2014. She was born July 30, 1915 at Summit Farm Orneville, ME, daughter of Warren and Eva (Morgan) Christie. She graduated from Milo H.S. in 1933 and had one year of secretarial training. She married Emery in 1936 and lived in Flagstaff, Solon, Brownville Jct. and Portland ME as a home-maker with her young family. Edna worked as a secretary and sold Avon Cosmetics in Wantaugh, L.I., NY then in East Winthrop, ME. She spent every summer at the family camp on Lake Hebron in Monson, ME, played card games and tennis for hours, hiked, swam to the island, enjoyed home cooking, participated in the Audubon Society’s Loon Count. Edna was active in the Community Church in Monson and churches in FL, where she sang well. She was an adventurous traveler in her later years, accompanied Emery to live in Uganda, Africa, visited Europe, Alaska, the American SW, and Central America in an Airstream RV, finally as a snowbird spent winters in FL, and summers in ME. She helped sponsor children through Unicef and encouraged her five grandchildren by her strong example of faith, virtue, kind-heartedness and a very dry humor. Most of all she loved her family and she loved Nature. She was predeceased by her husband Emery Dunfee, two brothers Lindon Sr. and Donald Christie, and one sister Warena Christie Farnham. She is survived by her brother-in-law Milton Anderson and wife Flora of Monson, her daughter Deanna List and husband Dawson of Helena MT, her son Donald Dunfee of Monson, and five grandchildren Christie Messer of Helena MT, Charles (Chuck) List of Park City UT, Heather Dunfee and husband George Layng of Westfield MA, Bethany Dunfee Pierce and husband Tom of Freeport ME, Andrea Eckerson and husband David of East Helena MT, and eight great-grandchildren: Grant Eckerson, Logan Eckerson, Emmalynn Pierce, Abigail Eckerson, Aidan Layng, Macallan Layng, Elias Layng, Eva Layng. A memorial service for Edna will be held at the Monson Community Church, Monson, ME, on Sunday August 24, 2:00pm. Donations, in lieu of flowers, to the Maine Loon Project, c/o the Maine Audubon Society.
