ORONO, Maine — Police believe distracted driving likely caused a single-vehicle accident that sent a 31-year old local man to the hospital Friday morning.
The crash forced traffic to a crawl on Interstate 95 for the latter part of the morning commute, Maine State Police Trooper Adam Gould said. The accident occurred in the northbound lanes just south of the Kelly Road exit at around 11 a.m.
Gould said Charles Bush, 31, apparently was drifting just prior to going off of the left-hand side of the road.
The trooper said Bush’s license is suspended.
Bush did not strike any other vehicles, and his SUV careened into a tree off the left-hand side of the highway.
Gould said Bush was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for a head injury. He added that he was lucky not to have been injured more severely.
The vehicle Bush was driving was demolished in the crash.
