VASSALBORO, Maine — A Windsor man was killed Tuesday morning when a pickup truck struck a sedan at the intersection of Legion Park Road and Route 3, police said.

Clifford Welch, 91, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his wife, Grace, 83, Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Welch’s vehicle was attempting to turn onto Route 3 from Legion Park Road when it was struck on the driver’s side rear-quarter panel by a pickup truck driven by Dayna Devalk, 47, of Augusta, Reardon said.

Devalk was traveling east on Route 3 at the time the accident, Reardon said.

The impact sent the sedan spinning down the road and the pickup into a ditch, the chief deputy said. Grace Welch suffered bumps and bruises, and Devalk suffered minor scrapes and bumps, Reardon said.

Clifford Welch was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Route 3 was closed for about 3 hours while police worked at the scene, Reardon said. Maine State Police Trooper Michael Pion is reconstructing the accident.
