PORTLAND, Maine — A Massachusetts man was convicted Tuesday of failing to pay his child support, along with marijuana possession, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Jay Dandreo, 52, was convicted in U.S. District Court in Portland. He faces up to two years in prison on the child support charge and an additional five years on the marijuana charge.
Dandreo was convicted after a two-day jury trial.
According to court documents, Dandreo did not make child support payments of his four children between May 2004 and November 2013, as mandated by the Department of Health and Human services.
The missed payments resulted in an unpaid obligation of $70,000.
In August 2012, marijuana plants at a property in Limerick owned by Dandero’s father were seized, along with drug distribution paraphernalia and several firearms.
A sentencing date for Dandreo has not been set. In addition to jail time, he faces fines of up to $250,000 on each charge.
