LIMINGTON, Maine — A York County man was sent to the hospital early Tuesday after his vehicle collided with an agricultural tractor, police said.

Richard Chaput, 54, was heading south on Route 11 shortly after 4 a.m. when his Chevy Cavalier struck a Kubota tractor driven by Gaetan Paulin, 60, of Limington, Chief Deputy William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office said.

Paulin works for Brackett’s Apple Orchards and was on his way to spray an orchard at the time of the accident, King said.

Chaput apparently didn’t see Brackett’s tractor as he followed him in a turn in the road and struck the rear of the tractor, King said.

Chaput needed to be extricated from his mangled vehicle and was taken to Maine Medical Center for injuries not considered life threatening, King said. Paulin was shaken up but did not require medical attention.

King said the spray chemicals the tractor was hauling did not pose a threat to the community.

Route 11 was closed for several hours early Tuesday morning.
