Bruce Ernest Hayne

EAST ORLAND – Bruce Ernest Hayne went peacefully to be with the Lord with family by his side July 22, 2014. He was born Sept. 20, 1936 to Ernest and Pauline (Hartzell) Hayne in Allentown, Pa.
He graduated from Northampton High School in 1954. He received his BS and MS in education at East Stroudsburg University and returned to teach there. He was named in Who’s Who in American colleges and universities and remained the consummate teacher through the varied stages of his life. He received his certification from the University of Pennsylvania Physical Therapy program and later taught sports medicine courses for their program. He was the physical therapist/ trainer for the professional soccer teams: The Philadelphia Atoms – 1973 NASL champions, The Philadelphia Fury, The Philadelphia Fever Indoor soccer team, The United States National Soccer Team – a time that he enjoyed tremendously.
On Aug. 16, 1958 he married LaRue (Moyer). They raised two daughters; their son Courtney Scott passed away in infancy. Bruce is survived by his loving wife, LaRue, daughters, Jamie and Kirsten and grandchildren, Marley, Logan and Hobie, all of whom he deeply loved.
Soccer was very special to Bruce and LaRue. They also enjoyed Indy car racing. Their favorites were the drivers for the Andetti team. Both interests provided travel opportunities such as Monaco, Hockenheim, etc. Recent winters were spent in Costa Rica.
Bruce’s hobbies included: Fishing, wood carving, photography and reading. He and LaRue incorporated these interests in their running of the Fertile Mind Bookshop, Belfast, ME. He will certainly be missed by his family and friends.
Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 at Crossroads Christian Camp, 33 Baldy Rd., Bradley, ME 04411-0441. Light refreshments will be be served there immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Christian Camp.
