Woman suffers serious injuries in Saco crash

SACO, Maine — A Scarborough woman suffered “serious internal injuries” when her van was struck by a wrecker on Route 1 on Monday afternoon, according to a news release from the Saco Police Department.

Bronwyn Hoplight-Powers, 24, was turning her 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan left onto Route 1, also known in that area as Portland Road, from Spring Hill Road when she was struck by a Southern Maine Towing and Auto Repair truck around 1:30 p.m.

The tow truck was traveling south in the passing lane when it collided with the van.

Wayne Trunk Jr., 33, the driver of the tow truck, suffered minor injuries to his right side and was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford for treatment, according to the release.

Hoplight-Powers was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Saco police are continuing to investigate the crash

The road was shut down after the crash, but since has reopened.
