SACO, Maine — A Lewiston woman was killed Sunday after her vehicle crashed into a telephone pole on Buxton Road, police said.

Speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash that claimed the life of Samantha Sabourin, 22, according to Saco Deputy Chief Jeff Holland.

Sabourin was the lone occupant in the vehicle, according to Holland.

Witnesses had reported that Sabourin, who was traveling west, had passed several vehicles at a high rate of speed before losing control and striking a telephone pole, Holland said.

The impact caused the vehicle to roll over, and it came to a rest on the driver’s side.

Sabourin was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
