Bangor Cadets advance to final four in Junior Legion state baseball tourney

SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Tanner Goodine scattered nine hits and didn’t walk a batter to lead the Bangor Cadets to series-clinching 5-2 victory over the Madison Junior 39ers in the Junior Legion baseball state tourney Sunday.

Bangor advanced to the final four in the state tourney this weekend at Old Orchard Beach and will open on Friday against either Wells or Standish.

Jake Ireland sparked the Bangor offense with a double and two RBIs while Gary Farnham added a double and drove in a run. Nick Cowperthwaite and Goodine each added two singles and Jesse Colford drove in a run.

Brendan Curran paced Madison with three singles.

LL state, age 11 all-stars

Saco, Oceanside win

At Windham, District 4 champ Saco shut out District 3 champ Brewer 9-0 in the opening round of the Little League state all-star baseball tourney for age 11 Saturday.

Saco starting pitcher Dylan Griffin struck out seven in four innings. Isaac Ireland pitched the final two innings, striking out three to help seal the shutout

Matt Gross and Connor Young each had a hit for Brewer

In the second game, District 2 champ Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston beat District 5 champ Auburn-Suburban 18-9.

Each team used four pitchers with Hunter Moore scoring three runs for Oceanside and Landon Morrissette hitting a home run for Auburn.
