More than 1,100 households and businesses were without power as of 9 p.m. Sunday in Bangor, northern Penobscot and Piscataquis counties, and Aroostook County, according to Emera Maine.

Power was not expected to be restored in Bangor until midnight.

Crews were working to restore power in Bangor because of a problem with a transformer cable at the Webster Street substation, Susan Faloon, spokeswoman for the former Bangor Hydro Co., stated in a news release issued about 9 p.m. The problem caused customers on Broadway, Hammond and nearby streets in Bangor to lose power.

Crews were installing a mobile substation in an effort to get power restored more quickly and were expected to be working at the site much of the week to resolve the problem.

Wind and rainy conditions caused scattered power outages in other areas.

Emera customers may report outages at 855-EMERA11 or 973-2020.
