Maine Athletic Club U17s suffer first loss at AAU nationals

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — The Maine Athletic Club 17-and-under boys basketball team suffered its first loss Friday at the AAU Division I 11th-Grade National Championships.

WCBA of North Carolina built up a double-digit lead in the second half and held on to defeat the Maine squad 54-48.

Coach Carl Parker’s club is now 6-2 overall in tournament play in Kentucky, 2-1 at the nationals.

Houlton’s Kyle Bouchard led MAC against North Carolina with 16 points and five rebounds, while Ben Malloy of Bonny Eagle of Standish scored 14 points and Nick Mayo of Messalonskee of Oakland added 10 points and four rebounds.

MAC also got three points, six rebounds and three assists from Falmouth’s Jack Simonds, while Dayne Savage of Caribou also scored three points and Chris Hudson of Hodgdon contributed two points and four rebounds.
