Maine Athletic Club AAU basketball team picks up second pool-play victory at nationals

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Justin Martin of Winslow led a balanced attack with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists Thursday as the Maine Athletic Club 17-and-under boys basketball team won its second straight game in pool play at the AAU Division I 11th-Grade National Championships with a 75-35 victory over Tennessee Glory.

Coach Carl Parker’s club, now 6-1 overall during tournament play in Kentucky and 2-0 at the nationals, plays its final pool-play game at 1:20 p.m. Friday against WCBA Blue of North Carolina.

Chris Hudson of Hodgdon had 12 points and seven rebounds and Nick Mayo of Messalonskee added 12 points and six boards in MAC’s win over Tennessee Glory, while Falmouth’s Jack Simonds had 10 points and four rebounds.

Kyle Bouchard of Houlton contributed eight points, six rebounds and four assists to the victory, while Caribou’s Dayne Savage had seven points and three assists, Ben Malloy of Bonny Eagle of Standish scored six points, Matt Murray of Cony of Augusta scored four points and Nason Lanphier of Winslow finished with two points and four assists.
