FARMINGTON, Maine — Four families need a place to stay after a lightning strike caused a fire at their home in Farmington on Wednesday afternoon.

No one was inside the home at the time, but witnesses who heard the lightning strike described it as deafening.

Michael Whittemore, who lives at the home, said he was pulled over while driving back.

Firefighters stopped the fire before it spread to other units in the building. For one resident, this is the second time her home has been damaged by fire.

The Red Cross is helping the families affected by the fire.
