MOSCOW – Wilma Vitalone, 93, died Monday July 14th, 2014, in Moscow following a long illness. Wilma was born March 1, 1921, in Wellington, to Ray and Gladys C. (Dyer) Knowles.
She graduated from Harmony High School and went on to graduate from the Harvard School of Nursing. Wilma had a long career in Surgical Nursing, she started in a small hospital in Skowhegan and had worked in several hospitals in the Boston area and Buffalo NY. She retired from nursing in Massachusetts and moved to Brewer. She lived in Brewer for 28 years before moving to Moscow 8 years ago.
Wilma was predeceased by her husband, Joseph A. Vitalone Sr., a son, Joseph A. Vitalone Jr., her sisters, Ruth Rollins, Marie Weinberger and Beatrice “Betty” Sheehan. She is survived by her stepson, Richard Vitalone and his wife, Lynn of Shamong, NJ, her loving cousin, Alfred W. Dyer Jr. of Moscow and a niece, Gay Weinberger, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Roger Renfrew and his staff for their care over the years also thank-you to Maine General Hospice, Janice Knowles, Susie Hinkley and Tori Hinkley.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25th at Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., in Bingham. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive in Augusta. Cremation & Service Arrangements are under the care of Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham.
