Merlin A. White

SCARBOROUGH – Merlin A. White, 75, died peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on Saturday, July 19, 2014, following a brief battle with cancer. Merlin was born October 12, 1938 in Ludlow, the son of Cyril and Velma White.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1963. Merlin married Sonya Bither in February of 1962. They lived in Houlton, then moved to Scarborough in 1964. Merlin, who was a Teamster of Local 340, worked as a truck driver for O’Donnell’s Express, who over the years was bought out by Sanborn’s and then APA, where he retired after 30 years of driving. After retirement, Merlin became a part-time bus driver for the Scarborough School Department for 19 years.

Merlin was predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Velma White and his sister, Charlotte Reeves. Surviving is his wife, Sonya White; daughters, Sandra White, and Linda White Mitchell and her husband, Michael; son, Merl White Jr.: two grandsons, William and A.J. Mitchell; many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 24 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route One, Scarborough. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
