BIDDEFORD — Jackson Thayer allowed only three hits and struck out seven to help Bronco Little League open with an 8-0 victory over Waldo Country in the Little League state baseball tourney for ages 11-12 Friday.
Wyatt Harriman sparked the offense for Bronco of Hampden with a home run and a single. Ethan Quimby chipped in with a homer and Sam Economy added a double and two singles.
Bronco struck for two runs in the first when Quimby cranked a two-run homer and then Harriman led off the second with a solo shot.
Bronco added three more runs in the third, highlighted by Economy’s two-run single. Mychal Beaulieu, Harriman and Ryan Sears each scored after Beaulieu and Harriman singled and Sears reached on an error.
In the fifth, Economy doubled home Kergan Perkins and Harriman, who both reached on walks.
Charlie Spiegel and Colby Snow each singled for Waldo.
In the first game of the double-elimination tourney, District 6 champ Falmouth beat District 5 champ Auburn Suburban 15-4.
Falmouth will play the District 4 champ at 10 a.m. Saturday and then Bronco will take on District 1 champ Coastal of Blue Hill at 1:30 p.m.
On Sunday at 1 p.m., Waldo will take on the loser of the Falmouth-D4 game and at 4:30 p.m. Auburn will play the loser of the Bronco-Coastal game.

At Auburn, Scarborough and Ellsworth both opened the state tourney for ages 9-10 with victories in the double-elimination tourney.
Scarborough beat Hermon 20-1 and Ellsworth defeated Auburn Suburban 10-0.
Scarborough and Ellsworth will both play games on Saturday when Ellsworth will play District 2 champ Oceanside at 1 p.m. and Scarborough will take on the District 4 champ at 4 p.m.
On Sunday at 10 a.m., Hermon will take on the loser of Ellsworth-Oceanside game, followed by a 1 p.m. contest between tourney host Auburn Suburban and the loser of the Scarborough/D4 game. At 4 p.m., the winners of Saturday’s two games will clash.
At Bucksport on Thursday, Ty Giberson and Colton Trisch combined on the shutout, holding Ellsworth to one hit in the District 1 all-star game for ages 10-11.
Giberson and Ryan Howard each contributed offensively by driving in three runs.
Austin Dyer had Ellsworth’s hit.
Ellsworth will host Bucksport at 5 p.m. Saturday.
At Heddericg Field in Brewer Thursday night, Matt Pushard cranked a home run, doubled, singled and drove in five RBIs to propel Brewer by Waldo.
Chase Allen and Dylan Birmingham each chipped in with two singles for Brewer (9-5), with Allen driving in two runs. Tyler Maguire added a triple and two RBIs and Kobe Rogerson drove in three runs.
Logan Rogerson (1-0) was the winning pitcher.
Alex Canning doubled for Waldo (1-12).
