FORT KENT AND EAGLE LAKE – Joan J. Pelletier, 80, died peacefully July 17, 2014 at a Fort Kent Health Care Facility, surrounded by family, after a 2-year battle with cancer. She was born June 28, 1934 in Eagle Lake, the daughter of David Sr. and Anita (Austin) Pelletier.
Joan was a giving soul. She began serving others at an early age, leaving school to help her mother raise her younger siblings. She also worked at rectories in Eagle Lake and Greenville assisting the priests and nuns. Joan held CNA positions at hospitals in Eagle Lake and Fort Kent until her retirement.
Joan enjoyed shopping, reading, and stitchery. She loved visiting with family and friends, and making gifts for her loved ones. Though she never had children of her own, she cared deeply for family and cherished time spent with her nieces and nephews. Joan never lost her sense of humor throughout her illness. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Joan is survived by a brother, James R. Sr. and wife, Rolande Pelletier of Eagle Lake, three sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” and husband, Patrick Pelletier of Southington, Ct., Margaret and husband, James Dumond of Dublois, Sandra Mae and husband, Peter Pinette of Wallagrass, sister-in-law, Stella Pelletier of Winterville. Joan is also survived by a niece whom she held special to her heart and considered a daughter, Lorie (Marquis) McGinnis. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, David Pelletier Jr.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 18 at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 noon Monday, July 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eagle Lake.
