Gertrude (Eells) Prescott

STETSON AND CORINNA – Gertrude Elizabeth (Eells) Prescott, 96, also affectionately known to many as “Gram”, died July 15, 2014 at Dexter Health Care. She was born July 14, 1918 in Stetson, the daughter of the late Frank Pentz and Lillian May (Bubier) Eells.
Gertrude lived, all but the last few years of her life, in Stetson where she attended Stetson elementary school and high school. She married Paul Hilton Prescott in 1935 and together they raised six children there. She loved her family very much and never tired of helping them any way she could. She worked for Snowflake Canning Company in Corinna and later for Eastland Woolen Mill for approximately 20 years, retiring from the mill in 1980. Gertrude had a passion for flowers and gardening and loved working in them, often giving flowers and plants to people in town.
She is survived by four of her children, Norma Mathews and husband, Lee of Baja California, Mexico, Gayle Annett and husband, Richard of Greenville, Dayle Gardiner and husband, Kenneth of Corinna and William Prescott and wife, Barbara of Newport. “Gram” had 12 grandchildren, Bruce, Laurie, David, Donald, April, Brian, Kevin, Carey, Russell, Ryan, Wayne and Karen who were a great joy to her; 16 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul; a son, Bruce; a daughter, Judy Irvin; and a granddaughter, Wendy Holsopple. She was also predeceased by four brothers and their wives: Norman and Evelyn, Harold and Eileen, Howard and Grace, and Arthur; a half sister, Goldie Reed and husband, Norman; a half brother, Collon Seavey; and a very special “close as a sister” friend, Pauline Colpitts.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22nd, at Clark’s Hill Cemetery in Stetson. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral and Cremation Services, Newport.
