BREWER, Maine — Two people are dead after a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on Route 9, police said.
Brewer Public Safety Director Perry Antone confirmed two people were killed but did not disclose identities, pending notification of relatives. The names of the people involved in the crash had not yet been released as of late Tuesday night.
“It’s very, very early in the investigation to be able to tell what happened,” Antone said.
A total of six people were involved in the accident, according to Antone, and the other four were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with serious injuries.
The collision occurred shortly after 1 p.m. just west of the Eagle’s Nest restaurant.
Antone did not disclose whether the deceased were drivers or passengers, and he declined to say what types of vehicles were involved.
Route 9, also known as North Main Street, was closed until about 5 p.m. while authorities reconstructed the accident. Traffic was detoured at Parkway North.
