Willard ‘Mac’ S. McAllister Jr.

OLD TOWN – Willard S. McAllister, Jr., 89, died July 11, 2014 at an Orono health care facility. He was born May 18, 1925 in Milford, a son of Willard “Shirl” and Pearl (Johnston) McAllister.
Willard attended Milford and Old Town Schools, graduating from Old Town high School in 1943. He was a proud World War II veteran, having served with the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theater aboard the LST 1084. Following the service, he held various jobs, but the majority of his working life, he served as the electrical superintendent at the Diamond International Mill in Old Town. Willard and his wife, Norma enjoyed many summer vacations at Cathance Lake in Cooper, Maine. In 1984 they purchased their camp on Upper Cold Stream, Big Narrows, Lincoln and enjoyed many gatherings with family and friends over the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles, and Chevrolets.
He is survived a son,Peter McAllister and his wife, Sue of Rome; three grandchildren, Melissa Commeau and her fiancé, Steve Merenberg of Milford, Michael McAllister of Weeks Mills, and Kenn McAllister of Windham; three great-grandchildren, Noah Ray Thibodeau, Hollie Rose McAllister and Charli Grace McAllister; brother-in-law, Forest “Foddy” Peterson and his wife, Theresa of Richmond, VA; and sister-in-law, Muriel Frye of Lancaster, PA; several nieces, nephews, and close camp friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Norma (Peterson) McAllister in 2013, daughter, Jane in 2002; two sisters, Mabel Mayhew and Frances Thomas.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Milford Cemetery. Following services all are invited to the Birmingham Funeral Home, for a light lunch and continued fellowship.
