CARMEL – Helen M. Hand, 92, went to take her place at the Lord’s table, July 11, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born April 19, 1922 to the late Waldo and Louise (Hunt) Philbrick.
Helen was a proud self-employed housekeeper for many years. She enjoyed dancing and cooking. She was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley, WWE Wrestling, and the New York Yankees. It was Helen’s love of life, family, friends, and country that meant the most to her.
Helen is survived by her only daughter, Lois Doughty and significant other, Stan Flagg of Hudson, a grandson, Brian Doughty of Bangor, and a sister, Rosalie Harriman of Claremont NH, along with several nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her late husband, Clifford Hand, along with brothers, Roy, Raymond and Ronald, all of whom were Veterans of the United States Army, and a sister, Georgia. Special thanks for the kindness and compassion of the staff at Beacon Hospice, and the staff at Orono Commons.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Beacon Hospice in memory of Helen to benefit others who suffer from Dementia. A graveside celebration of life for Helen will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery in Carmel. Arrangements have been made with Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
