BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police officers were notified Friday night about a group of abandoned cats and went to their rescue, Sgt. Tim Cotton said in a Facebook post.
“Someone left 13 cats and kittens alone and without food, water or litter boxes,” the sergeant said in the Saturday morning post on the department’s Facebook page. “We call that abandonment, among other things.”
A concerned citizen notified the police department about the cats, and Sgt. Kevin MacLaren and Officer Ben Paradis went to the scene and found the animals.
“The felines are now at the [Bangor] Humane Society, and if you are looking for a cat, it appears the 2014 models will be ready soon,” Cotton said.
Since the owner of the cats has not been charged, his or her name was not released.
“No charges as of yet, [and] I suspect we won’t be able to nail the cat culprit because the apartment was empty,” Cotton said in an email.
An officer has been assigned to investigate further, the sergeant said.
