Cynthia Dill and Mike Cianchette

Today, the BDN introduces Michael Cianchette, Cynthia Dill and their weekly column and blog, “He Said, She Said.” Cianchette, a Republican, and Dill, a Democrat, will go back and forth every week on key political issues, campaign politics and Maine government.

They rarely agree, but that’s the point. They disagree in a way that informs and enriches the public debate.

To be honest, though, this column isn’t only about informing. Cynthia and Michael also aim to amuse — and show that amid today’s highly polarized politics that you can disagree, poke fun at your opposition and enjoy a good debate in the end.

Michael Cianchette served as the chief counsel to Gov. Paul LePage from 2012-2013 and deputy counsel from 2011-2012. A Navy reservist, he recently returned from a deployment in Afghanistan, where he worked as a trainer and adviser to the Afghan National Police.

Cynthia Dill is a civil rights attorney with the Portland firm Troubh Heisler. She has served as a state senator and representative, and she was the Democratic nominee in Maine’s 2012 U.S. Senate race. Dill appears regularly on Maine Public Radio as a political commentator.
