UMaine researchers breed variety of non-spicy hot peppers

ORONO, Maine — University of Maine researchers say they’ve developed a new hot pepper without the heat.

They worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to breed a new variety of pepper at a facility in Georgia.

They say this new pepper has the same health benefits of hot peppers but without the spice that turns many people away.

Hot peppers are considered a rich source of antioxidants.
