STANLEY L. VERRILL

WINTERPORT – Stanley L. Verrill, 97, husband of the late Genevieve (Cross) Verrill, died July 2, 2014 at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 22, 1916 in Rockwood, the son of Lester O. and Margaret S. (Nickerson) Verrill.

Stanley attended schools in Carmel and Winterport graduating from Winterport High School in 1934. He later attended Lincoln Flying School in Lincoln, Nebraska joining the US Army Air Corps in 1941 serving four years during WWII in the European Theatre. Stanley was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant in September 1945 and worked as a flight engineer at Bomber Flight Test Division at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio from 1946 to 1973. Stanley met Genevieve, his loving wife of 53 years, while both were serving in the Air Force. They were married in Stow, Ohio on November 16, 1947. Stan and Genevieve lived in Dayton, Ohio until his retirement in 1978 from Aviation Sales of Dayton. They moved to Winterport in 1978 and became active in the Frankfort Congregational Church.

Stanley was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve in 2001. Surviving are three children, Dr. Harland Verrill of Flint, Michigan and Dr. Andrew Verrill and his wife, Elsa of Powell, Ohio and Deborah Brooker and her husband, Dr. Robert Brooker of Plymouth, MN; 11 grandchildren, Kimberly, Bethany, Michelle and Rachel Verrill, Matthew, Thomas, Daniel and Douglas Verrill, Daniel, Nathan and Sarah Brooker; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Cameron of Orono and Joan Verrill of Bangor; one brother, David Verrill of Winterport; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Stanley was predeceased by two brothers, Harland and Richard Verrill. The Verrill family would like to thank the staff of the Sylvia Ross Home as well as Dr. Alkhunaizi and Dr. Karakalpakis of the St. Joseph Home Care and Hospice for the loving care and support they provided for Stanley.

Family and friends may visit 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 PM Friday, July 11, 2014 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A service honoring and celebrating Stanley’s life will be held 11 AM Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Frankfort Congregational Church, Frankfort with Pastor Judy Ahles, presiding. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. A reception will be immediately afterward.
