OLD TOWN – Our beautiful mother Meledore Marie Brillant Ouellette, 99, passed away in the presence of her family on Thursday, July 3, 2014. Meledore was born Wednesday, May 12, 1915 on French Island in Old Town, the daughter of William and Demerise (LeVasseur) Brillant. She married her childhood sweetheart, Maurice Ouellette on September 9, 1935.

Meledore’s parents wanted to keep her close by, so they made their house into two apartments. When Meledore’s mother passed away, the two apartments turned back in a one family dwelling. She continued to faithfully take care of her father, husband, and children. She was a strong and giving woman. She had a deep faith in the Catholic Church, and praying the rosary daily was an important part of her life. She had a great passion for planting flower and vegetable gardens. She loved open fields, especially wildflowers, butterflies, and picking strawberries on a cool summer day. Most of all, she loved her family deeply.

She was loved, and will be missed by her children and their spouses, Theresa Reynolds and her husband, Alan, Old Town; Thomas Ouellette, and his wife, Theresa, Bradley; Barbara Ouellette, and her husband, Jean, Old Town; Michael Ouellette and his wife, Kathleen, Old Town; Deborah Small and her husband, David, Old Town. She was also loved and treasured by her grandchildren, Alison Dufour and her husband, James, Old Town; Karen Thibault and her husband, David, Old Town; Susan Bagley and her husband, Ernest, South Portland; Harlan Small and his wife, Jessica Joy, Winterport; Jeff Ouellette, Old Town; Virginia Woodin, Old Town; Jessica Small and her wife, Perri, Dixmont; and Catherine Emerson and her husband, Kendall, Old Town. Her great-grandchildren were special to her and she was fondly called “Little Meme” by all of them, Stephanie Thibault, Old Town; Tyler Dufour, New York; Kate Ginish and her husband, Kirk, Hancock; Joshua Dufour, Old Town; Margaret Bagley, South Portland; Alexa Dufour, Old Town; Jonathan Bagley, South Portland and Samuel and Lily Woodin of Old Town. She has also left behind a niece, Elaine Pelletier who wrote to her frequently, nephews, Arthur and Robert Martin; Richard Ouellette, William and Richard Moore, and nephew, Bruce Moore who brought flowers to brighten her days. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, brother, Romeo, sister, Eva Moore, and a very special friend and sister-in-law, Cecilia Martin. The family would like to thank the Meadows staff and residents for their compassion, and love they had for our mother. We appreciate and can’t thank them enough for the wonderful support and care that was given to her and our family. She leaves a huge hole in our lives, but has earned a place of rest in Heaven with all that have gone before her. We love you Mama and miss you deeply. Adieu.
