Sex assault, prison charges, drugs dominate Knox County grand jury

ROCKLAND, Maine — Fifteen people were indicted Monday by a Knox County Grand Jury that met for one day. Charges issued by the grand jury ranged from sexual assault to drug possession, and also included alleged offenses by Maine State Prison inmates.

Josiah A. Bernardo, 18, Rockland, was indicted for Class A gross sexual assault against a 13-year-old girl on April 13 in Rockland.

Stephen Devon KIrkley, 21, Maine State Prison, assault on an officer on Dec. 2 at the prison in Warren.

Cleveland O’Neal Cruthirds, 27, Maine State Prison, assault on an officer on Jan. 21 at the prison.

Brandon L. Carleton, 20, Rockland, felony domestic violence assault on June 14 in Rockland, felony domestic violence terrorizing on same date.

Clair W. Mitchell, 37, Lincolnville, eluding an officer, criminal operating under the influence, violation of condition of release, operating after suspension, driving to endanger, criminal speed, refusing to submit to arrest, operating beyond license condition, all on June 7 in Union. Mitchell also was indicted on charges of criminal OUI, operating after suspension, failure to stop for an officer, and operating beyond license restriction for incidents on Feb. 28 in Camden.

Zachary S. Diffin, 35, Maine State Prison, trafficking and possession of cocaine on Jan. 28 in Warren.

Samuel P. Jordan, 32, Maine State Prison, unlawful trafficking and unlawful possession of oxycodone on Feb. 7 in Warren.

Michael Jason Huntley, 28, Maine State Prison, attempt to traffick and trafficking in prison contraband (suboxone) on Sept. 15 in Warren.

Jeffery H. Dorr Jr., 33, Opelika, Alabama, felony failure to appear in court on June 23 on forgery and theft charges, violation of condition of release.

Joseph Zak, 30, Camden, three counts of aggravated trafficking in heroin and three counts of trafficking in heroin for incidents in February and March in Camden, and possession of oxycodone, possession of suboxone, both on March 27 in Camden.

Dedrick Huff, 45, Washington, two counts of trafficking in cocaine, furnishing cocaine, trafficking in oxymorphone, possession of oxymorphone, trafficking in methadone, possession of methadone, possession of suboxone and OUI — all from Jan. 2 incident in Rockland.

Jacob West, 28, Rockland, felony possession of heroin on Jan. 23 in Rockland.

Kevin Defoe, 25, Camden, possession of oxycodone on March 27 in Camden.

Troy D. Jackson, 47, Union, operating after revocation.

Teresa L. Thomas, 43, Augusta, felony theft for stealing a television set from Wal-Mart in Thomaston on Feb. 8. The charge is a felony because of two prior theft convictions.
