Secretary of state announces special elections to fill vacancies in Androscoggin and Somerset counties

AUGUSTA, Maine — Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap announced Tuesday that the Register of Probate vacancy in Androscoggin County and the Judge of Probate vacancy in Somerset County will both be filled at special elections to be held in conjunction with the general election on Nov. 4. The Androscoggin County vacancy was created by the resignation of Wendy Sanborn, and the Somerset County vacancy was created by the resignation of John Alsop.

The Maine Constitution and state law provide that, in the event of vacancies in these offices, new officials must be chosen at the next biennial election, to serve for the remainder of the term, which in both instances is until Dec. 31, 2016.

Candidate information is available by calling the Elections Division at 624-7650.
