Franklin County man accused of sexually assaulting disabled person

FARMINGTON, Maine — A Franklin County man is facing a gross sexual assault charge after his arrest on Wednesday, police said.

Joseph Champagne, 37, of West Freeman Township was taken into custody without incident, according to Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols.

Nichols said the alleged assault against a disabled adult occurred in March, and the victim recently notified police.

Detective Kenneth Charles investigated the case and arrested Champagne on Wednesday afternoon.

Champagne was brought to Franklin County Jail after his arrest.
